Kindergarten Orientation/Kinder Camp at Puesta del Sol

When:   Monday, August 26th, 2019, 9:00am - 12:00pm
Where:  Puesta del Sol Gymnasium and Kindergarten Pods (600's)
What:    Kindergarten Orientation/Kinder Camp, Popsicle Party and Picnic, and Bus Ride

On Monday, August 26th, Puesta del Sol's Kindergarten Orientation Day/Kinder Camp will take place.  Kindergarten students will participate in Kinder Camp and meet our four kindergarten teachers and other fellow classmates.  Kinder Camp will be followed by a back to school Fiesta de Paleta (paleta is a type of popsicle) and picnic with their families, as well as a short ride on a school bus.  

*Each student will need to bring a snack for Kinder Camp.  Please send a written note with any student with allergies.

Schedule: 

9:00am -12:00pm Kindergarten students participate in Kinder Camp.
12:00pm - 12:30pm Fiesta de paletas/Picnic. Families are invited to join their kindergarteners for this event. 
Please bring your own blanket and picnic.
12:30pm - 1:00pm   Students are invited to take a short bus ride.

 

Kindergarten Placement: Kinder Camp 

Each year, we conduct kindergarten classroom placements with the same care and thoughtfulness as we have in placing students entering grades 1–5.  This process is done through a camp held before school starts. This year's Kinder Camp will happen on August 26th from 9:00am - 12:00pm.  During this day, Kindergarten students are assigned to one of four color-coded classrooms for Kinder Camp. Each Kindergarten teacher will rotate through these four classrooms engaging the students in a variety of academic and social learning activities.  This will allow teachers to get to know all the kindergarten students and allow each student to work with each teacher. 

At the end of the day, the Kindergarten teachers will meet to determine classroom placements for the remainder of the year. Our goal is to ensure that each student has a highly supportive and positive learning environment for the school year.  

By August 30, your assigned teacher will email you to sign-up for WaKIDS Family Connections Conference and to provide you with your student's final classroom placement.

September 4-6 - Sign ups will be emailed by your child's assigned teacher by August 30.

 


First Day of School for Kindergarten Students

The first day of school for kindergarten students will be Monday, September 9th, 2019 at 9am.  All other students in grades 1-12 will start school on Wednesday, September 4, 2019.

 

Kindergarten Curriculum Night

When:   September TBD, 2019 at 6:00 PM
Where:  Puesta del Sol Gymnasium

Kindergarten Curriculum Night will be in students’ final classroom assignment. This evening offers families an opportunity to meet with and review the classroom’s procedures, curriculum and expectations for the year.  We strongly recommend that families attend this evening as it offers key insights into the kindergarten learning trajectory as well as an opportunity to learn more about your child’s classroom.

Create a New Account on our website.  Please indicate Pre-K for your child's Grade Level and "Incoming Kindergartener" as your child's teacher. PTA membership runs from August 1 until the following October 31 (up to a 13-month period), and is valid for the school year in which is it purchased. Please wait until August to purchase membership.
  2. Sign up for the Newsletter and poke around the website!
  3. Like our PTA page on Facebook to see the latest school and PTA news.  https://www.facebook.com/Puestadelsolpta/
  4. We also have a non-PTA sponsored Facebook Group page for your class created by a parent that you can join as well at https://www.facebook.com/groups/(TBA).  This is a closed group, so you will need to request to join and will be admitted by the moderator.
  5. Check out the Kindergarten Summer Playdate Schedule (TBA) and put some dates on your summer calendar! 
  6. Purchase your child's school supplies (TBA). Please DO NOT label any of these items with your child’s name. Only label your child’s backpack.  Please bring the school supplies to your WaKIDS Family Connections Conference on September 4-6.
